There were 5,524 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, increasing the total to 1,920,814 since the pandemic began, the state Department of Public Health reported on Thursday.     In their weekly report, state officials also noted 876 new probable cases of coronavirus for a statewide total of 178,424.     As of Nov. 8, 147 patients were primarily hospitalized with COVID-19-related illnesses and 540 total patients hospitalized with COVID-19, the state agency reported.   Forty-five patients were in intensive care units, or ICUs, and eight patients were intubated.
